Now is December 28th, only a few days before we ring in 2013. This past year has to be by far the best season in travel for Davidsbeenhere.com, and 2013 is beginning to seem even better. Wrapping up the year is going to be bittersweet — It was a year full of intriguing destinations (Central America, Africa and Europe) but following Spring will bring on a range of new challenges and amazing opportunities.
The World did not end. Back in February 2012 I traveled via Guatemala for 12 days visiting the top attractions in the country, plus many lesser known ones. I have to thank INGUAT, the Guatemala Tourism Board, for providing me with a vehicle, driver and guide and hosting me. There’s not any greater way and with guide and a driver is an excellent plus to any press trip! I visited coastal towns, numerous Mayan ruins and two lakes.
My travels via El Salvador were distinct from Guatemala. Guatemala has a huge people, whereas El Salvador has completely lost its heritage. The country is comprised of volcanoes, small cities, colonial towns and beautiful beaches! Additionally, I stayed an extra four days at a family ‘s beach house — it was relaxation!
But it did not stop there. After 25 days of travel through Central America, I returned home to Miami for six days before heading out on a grueling 52-day excursion through four countries in Europe. Traveling via Spain (for the millionth time) was as incredible as it always is. Galicia is all about seafood, wines, medieval cities and an unreal amount of Celtic and Roman ruins.
Malta was up on our journey. This location IS RIDICULOUS! It has a special culture affected heritage and by its Italian. The nine days I spent here changed me in more ways than one. It’s food, island arenas and folks are matchless.
We Captured an Emirates flight.
Naturally Cyprus and the Larnaka Tourism Board hosted us for ten days. Can we state that the bull $%#& best food around Earth?! I wish they served mezze.
Following our tour of the Mediterranean, we were off into the of Andorra.
It may be one of the smallest countries in Europe, however it’s a world class shopping destination. Andorra’s ski resorts rival those located in Switzerland and also Colorado.
And then there was Africa. We spent twenty-two days researching the whole country of Malawi, and it is called the”Warm Heart of Africa.” A 15-hour trip on South African Airways transplanted me . The culture, crafts that were gorgeous wildlife safaris and the awe-inspiring Lake Malawi made an impression on me which I can not shake. It’s definitely in the top 3 of places I have been so much better.
Oh, and the people!
This season I met some of the most smart, genuine, gifted and well-traveled bloggers on the market (Pause the Moment, Wandering Trader, Backpack with Brock, Leah’s Travels, Mrs. O Round the World, Wild Junket, Legal Nomads,” Everything Indices, Indices Voyageur, Kelly Ferro, The Nad Work, Travel Dudes, Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler and The Blonde Gypsy. ) Meeting each one of these was just delightful — I am proud to now call them my friends (cheesy, I know, but true!)
Then there were two. Following a busy 5-day Visit to World Travel Market in London…
Ana and I got married on December 1st in Miami.
We honeymooned in lovely St. Lucia — a Caribbean island full of nice beaches, stunning scenery and tasty seafood.
This past year I traveled around 8 countries and it changed my entire life yet again!
So what’s next? Transferring to Europe that is what! My (wait for it. .) Wife and I am going to make the big shift in April 2013. We have chosen Barcelona to be our home. From there we will be able to explore more of Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
I wish to extend a sincere thanks to every one of my lovers, family members, colleagues and fans who have enriched, educated, inspired and challenged me in 2012. I anticipate 2013 to be the best season yet and I hope you come along for the ride.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
I’d like to give a special thanks to my host, ScotteVest Travel Clothing for helping create this season of travel possible.
